The Teaching Assistants at People’s Prep work with students individually and in small groups in all core subjects. The Teaching Assistants may remain in the classroom throughout the day to support the social and learning needs of students in particular content areas, or may follow individuals and/or small groups of students from class to class in order to keep them engaged, break down information, and help them interact professionally with their peers and teachers. All People’s Prep teachers and staff serve as models for our students by bringing to life our core values.


Qualifications and Certification

Responsibilities

  • Support instruction across all content areas.
  • Provide homework assistance and academic enrichment using curriculum and materials provided by People’s Prep teachers and staff.
  • Collaborate with each student’s Council Coach (advisor) to set appropriate and frequent academic and social goals.
  • Lead Study Hall as necessary to support students inside class and during Office Hours.
  • Lead a Council (advisors) if asked to do so by School Leaders.
  • Engage fully in a coaching relationship including feedback meetings with school leaders.
  • Work collaboratively and participate actively at faculty meetings and in professional learning teams.
  • Develop and maintain school culture artifacts like bulletins, data walls, and announcement boards.
  • Teach and enforce the school-wide, clearly defined systems, structures, and rules (including before and after school and during transition times).
  • Tutor designated groups of students for predetermined periods of time.
  • Develop strong collegial bonds with core content teachers, classroom aids and Grade Level Liaisons to facilitate seamless support and programming to students.
  • Provide assistance to core content teachers in the following areas: classroom set-up, material creation, entering grades, facilitating lessons, planning and practicing assessments.
  • Assist with the Lunch Program as needed.
  • Attend and support all school-wide events.
  • Be available via phone and/or email throughout the evening and weekend to communicate with families, teammates and school leaders.
  • Complete other duties upon request by the school leaders.
