Founded in 2011, Roseville Community Charter School was created to provide a high quality, college preparatory education to students in the Roseville neighborhood of Newark, NJ. Our mission is to prepare every student for academic excellence while providing a warm, nurturing environment in which all children are supported and thrive. Position: K-4 Mathematics Instructional Coach

About the Opportunity
The Mathematics Coach will be responsible for coaching teachers to implement innovative strategies that boost student Mathematics achievement. The Mathematics Coach will play a chief role in implementing and revising the Mathematics curriculum as needed, and coordinating and administering Mathematics assessments.


Responsibilities:

  • Exemplify, advocate and operationalize the mission, vision and core values of the school
  • Teach and reinforce all school-wide expectations, systems, and routines
  • Observe teachers and provide specific strategies for improved instructional delivery
  • Create detailed coaching plans, which include focused goals and measures of success, to drive learning cycles
  • Work closely with the Instructional Leadership Team to create and improve aligned curriculum resources, professional development and materials support teachers
  • Support teachers’ achievement of goals by using coaching strategies that gradually release responsibility for implementing instructional practices to the teacher (for example, co-planning, modeling, co-teaching, side-by-side coaching, and observing)
  • Review and provide feedback on math lesson plans
  • Consistently analyze teacher practice through ongoing classroom observations, data analysis, and examination of student work
  • Serve as an expert in national trends and best practices in mathematics curriculum development and instructional strategies for historically underachieving students
  • Facilitate small group intervention and instruction for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students
  • Serve as a coach to teachers by providing expert advice on improving and enhancing individual lessons and units based on ongoing. This will include, but is not limited to:?
  • Reviewing lesson plans, unit plans, and assessments?
  • Understanding scope and sequence models
  • Observing classroom instruction and offering comprehensive analysis and feedback
  • Providing instructional strategy best practice training, as needed
  • Supporting the development of curriculum, using the backward design model and advising scope and sequence based on essential content knowledge that addresses the Common Core Standards
  • Cultivating a standards-based, data and results-oriented culture


Qualifications and Certifications

  • New Jersey teaching certification with specialization in Mathematics
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Firm belief in the ability of all students to achieve at high levels, and high expectations for low-income children to become college ready and attend selective universities
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
  • Previous elementary math coaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to build and support teams
  • Experience teaching in an urban environment, with demonstrated quantifiable and objective student performance gains that surpass state or local averages
  • Self-reflective and analytical problem solver
  • Openness to feedback, willingness to take personal responsibility, and a desire to learn from others
  • Unwavering in pursuit of excellence even in the face of difficult opposition and challenges
