The Opportunity
Founded in 2007 with the mission of supporting the families of Trenton by providing a rigorous academic program intended to prepare the students for college, Foundation Collegiate Academy is seeking a dynamic academic leader to serve as their next High School Principal. This individual will serve as the high school’s chief strategist, working in concert with the Chief Academic Officer to shape the overall direction of academics, professional learning, and organizational growth.

You have skillfully implemented innovative, disciplined, and continuously improving processes and systems for academic teams and holding teams accountable for achieving measurable results.

Instructional Mentor & Developer. As an experienced instructional leader, in and out of the classroom, you are adept at providing meaningful feedback and developmental supports to both teachers and school leaders in addition to emerging educators, leading to dramatic student achievement gains.

Academic Performance Strategist. As a school-based leader with a proven track record, you understand what it means to drive dramatic student achievement gains and to develop the conditions, the processes and data metrics for predict that student success – year over year. Your deep understanding and experience in coaching staff to utilize data will support the organization’s student achievement gains, ensuring that students are career and college ready.

Developer of People. As a leader and expert in talent acquisition and development, you have devised and implemented cutting-edge strategies for teacher retention and recognition, ensuring that experienced, highly qualified staff are not only recruited to an organization but stay for years to come.

Program & Curriculum Engineer. As an expert in curriculum development and academic programming, you understand school design and the effectiveness of an integrated educational model. As a curriculum and instruction mentor, you have experience in training and developing this skill set in your team members.

Organizational Developer. With experience building strong organizations and teams, you have developed organizational effectiveness through talent management and development, change management, performance management and succession planning. ● School Culture Builder. You understand how to develop a strong culture through great leadership and have experience in developing and collaborating with school leaders to do the same. You demonstrate this belief in the ways you interact with staff and students, how you communicate with families and in your day-to-day work. Your passion and personal commitment to closing the achievement gap is contagious and drives school culture.

Effective Communicator. As a seasoned spokesperson, you are able to articulate the organizational and student achievement gains to the larger Trenton/NJ education community, charter school board as well as potential funders. You also understand the value of developing strategies to promote parental involvement in student’s loves and well as providing for opportunities for regular parent-teacher interactions.

  • Urban teaching and leadership experience, preferably with time spent in charter schools or networks.
Organizational Impact & Outcomes for Success
With the Academy in its seventh year, the High School Principal Leader has the opportunity to build on the foundation of the past several years while taking this organization to the next level. The High School Principal will do this by:
  • Ensuring that the systems and structures needed to drive consistent student achievement gains for all students are fully implemented, consistently followed, and review/revised as needed;
  • Providing targeted professional learning and development for all staff, especially those teachers early in their practice, with the goal of going from good to great across all grades/content areas in the next 3-5 years;
  • Working with the central team to develop an organization-wide recruitment and retention strategy aimed at achieving short and long-term hiring goals will the continue to engage the best and brightest early career teachers and mid-senior level teachers who can serve in teacher leader capacities across the organization; and
  • Developing a data-driven approach to an academic portfolio where opportunities and challenges are identified and addressed systematically based on school and grade level data.
Core Responsibilities
While at Foundation Academy, the High School Principal may be tasked with some of the following on a daily/yearly basis:
  • Provide Instructional Leadership to Advance Proven Teaching and Learning Practices
    • Ensure implementation/evaluation of all board-approved written curricula for all subjects and inclusion of mandated programs/state core curriculum content standards.
    • Develop and oversee the delivery of the school’s intervention and referral services for pupils who are experiencing difficulties in their classes and who have not been classified as in need of special education.
    • Ensure access to public education for homeless students in accordance with state and federal law and administrative code.
  • Oversee School Operations
    • Ensure the safekeeping of student/personnel files and other confidential records/documents, as well as the destruction of public records in accordance with law and regulations.
    • Conduct staff meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
    • Plan and supervise regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences and make arrangements for special conferences as necessary.
    • Ensure the proper approval, collection, safekeeping, and accounting of school activity funds.
    • Ensure that his/her team follows purchasing procedures and protocol.
  • Contribute to the School’s Annual Goals as Defined by Various Performance Metrics
    • Attend to all metrics released by the NJ DOE in their School Performance Report Card, including but not limited to the following:
      • Percentage of students who score Proficient or Advanced on the NJASK
      • District comparisons
      • Peer rankings
      • Student growth percentiles
      • 4-year Adjusted Cohort graduation rate
  • Manage and Develop Personnel
    • Onboard, develop strong professional relationships with, provide performance feedback to, and ensure the long-term performance improvement of all site staff.
    • Direct and supervise all school instructional and student life staff.
