POSITION: Community Council Education Services  Special Education Teacher  

 

POSITION SUMMARY:   The teacher will provide the instructional Foundation while implementing the program specific model (ex. Re-Ed) approach by blending instruction and behavior management practices in classroom.  The teacher will facilitate daily academic, behavior and social activities documenting outcomes.  The teacher will also teach prevention strategies while assisting and managing crisis.  Responsible for following the School District of Philadelphia’s curriculum guidelines while providing academic and behavior accommodations.   

 

REPORTS TO: Program Manager-Teacher Manager

 

Section 1:  Required Work Standards

  1. Successfully administer math and reading assessments for Individual Education Plan (IEP), ex. Keymath/Woodcock.

 
  1. Successfully documents student progress through grading system established by and in accordance with the School District of Philadelphia.

 
  1. Facilitates and participates in goal setting groups, social skills group, positive groups and required team meetings.  

 
  1. Implements positive behavior support plans, behavior pathways and treatment interventions from the completed behavior sheets.  Assists students with classroom assignments by using appropriate accommodations.  

 
  1. Successfully works with the treatment teams to implement the Pre-Mack schedule.  Communicate updates through progress reports or via telephone with families on a weekly basis.

 
  1. Ensure all assigned paperwork requirements are completed ongoing including Community Council assigned paperwork, School District of Philadelphia assigned paperwork (ex. IEP’s, FBA’s, ER’s NORep’s).  

 
  1. Greet students daily upon arrival in the morning, via school bus or yard.  Upon school dismissal, ensure all students have safely boarded school bus, or have safely left school premises.  

 
  1. Attend all required school meetings, including bask to school night, report card conferences and all other required meetings.  

 
  1. Utilize appropriate progress monitoring tools.  Successfully  implement IEP, ER and FBA’s.  Utilize and administer grading system prescribed by the School District of Philadelphia.  

 
  1. Successfully create, implement and submit age appropriate lesson plans that outlines expectations and illustrates how instruction will be defined.

 
  1. Schedule and facilitate appropriate field trips as needed.  Ensure students receive direct instruction through exposure to grade appropriate curriculum.  

 
  1. Actively participates in staff meetings.  In accordance with Community Council and licensure requirements, attends in-service training to achieve, maintain and enhance professional competence.  Interacts professionally with clients, co-workers, families and/or community members.   

 
  1. Adheres to policies and procedures of Community Council.  

 
  1. Performs related duties; special assignments and projects as required.

 
  1. Other duties as assigned.

Section 3:  Specifications

 

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field is required, Master degree is preferred in Education or related fields.  Must have PA Special Education Certificate.  Must have a minimum of one years working with children diagnosed behavior disorders.
