Position: Principal of Roseville Community Charter School

About the Organization

Founded in 2011, Roseville Community Charter School was created to provide a high quality, college preparatory education to students in the Roseville neighborhood of Newark, NJ.  Our mission is to prepare every student for academic excellence while providing a warm, nurturing environment in which all children are supported and thrive.  Roseville Community Charter School currently serves 320 students in grades K-4 with plans to expand to K-8 in the future. About the Opportunity

In this role, the Principal will work report directly to the School Director and will be responsible for clearly defining, articulating and implementing the instructional vision for the school community.  The fundamental responsibility of the Principal is to develop and lead the academic program with a deep focus on student achievement and teacher development.  Through the lens of nurturing the school’s culture, the Principal will inspire, motivate and support the team to successfully execute the mission and vision of Roseville Community Charter School.

Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Achievement

  • In collaboration with the School Director further define and articulate the instructional vision and academic program
  • Directly manage, support and develop the school leadership team’s capacity to implement the academic program and vision
  • Design and oversee regular cycles of observations, feedback and informal and formal evaluations
  • Design and oversee a robust data-driven instructional cycle that leverages partnerships and aligns with the academic vision
  • Regularly analyze data with other instructional leaders and teachers to inform instructional decisions that support student achievement
  • Ensure that every student demonstrates consistent, significant achievement gains as outlined in student performance goals
Staff Development, Supervision & Evaluation
  • Supervise K-2/3-4 instructional leaders, dean of culture and student support, coaches, and special education coordinator
  • Directly coach school leadership team to build capacity in developing teachers
  • Direct coach teachers to improve instructional practice and strategies
  • Design and oversee the implementation of highest leverage professional development directly aligned to needs for all instructional staff
  • Formally supervise, observe, and evaluate all instructional team members
School Leadership
  • Embody and model the mission and core values Roseville Community Charter School
  • Inspire and create a work environment that empowers staff to have ownership of the school culture
  • Communicate regularly with teachers, parents, and students both informally and through weekly staff and parent memos
  • Develop positive relationships with families and the local community, school partners, students, and staff
School Administration
  • Interview and select teachers and other instructional staff
  • Build the systems to support a data-centered, achievement-oriented school culture

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to the mission and vision of Roseville Community Charter School
  • Experience working with high poverty communities of color
  • Possess a CE or Standard New Jersey Principal Certification
  • A minimum of 5 years teaching in an urban school with track record of leading students to significant academic growth and outcomes
  • A minimum of 2 years experience directly managing adults or teams; experience as a school leader preferred
  • Proven track-record of building a high achieving, positive student and adult culture
  • Demonstrated strength in planning and systems building
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and unite others around a vision and ambitious goals
  • Deep understanding of instruction, specifically rigor, engagement and differentiation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Results-driven, with sophisticated understanding of using data and assessments to drive instructional decisions.
  • Experience or strong desire to work collaboratively with and leverage resources of additional partners and stakeholders to most effectively support every student
  • Relentless team player with a “do-what-it-takes” attitude to ensure success
  • Openness to feedback, willingness to take personal responsibility, and a desire to learn from others
  • Unwavering in pursuit of excellence even in the face of difficult opposition and challenges
