ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) is the only national, multi-issue advocacy organization in the United States with the mission to build collective power of all AAPI women and girls to gain full agency over our lives, our families, and our communities. Founded in 1996, we are a growing and dynamic organization with staff in five offices and local volunteer-led chapters in fifteen cities.
 

THE OPPORTUNITY

NAPAWF is seeking a seasoned, collaborative, and effective professional responsible for the financial and cultural sustainability of the organization, working with the executive team to create the infrastructure and human capital strategy necessary for NAPAWF’s continued success and growth.

 

The Deputy Director of Operations will be a thought partner to the Executive Director (ED) and the other members of the Executive Team, supporting the overall work of the organization by serving as the glue to holds together the Executive Team, helping move the internal work forward, and ensuring an infrastructure and managing change to support a growing organization. The Deputy Director of Operations of will be charged with the day-to-day management of both the finance and development functions to include, grants administration as well as providing robust support to the ED around Board relations. The Deputy Director of Operations will also work to ensure all team meetings/ interactions and overall professional development are oriented toward a culture of learning with a bias for effectiveness, and works to set a tone commensurate with the values of the organization, which are leadership, boldness, racial and gender justice, co-creation, and responsive and adaptive learning. The Deputy Director will own large-scale events, coordinating other staff members and stakeholders to plan and execute successful events that align with the organization’s leadership development and policy agenda goals.

With more than 8+ years of experience, serving as a senior organizational leader in nonprofit or social advocacy, you are an innovator, analytical thinker and strategic thought partner with a proven track record of success. You have skillfully implemented innovative, disciplined, and continuously improving processes and systems, supporting staff success, with special focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.

Systems Developer & Operator. Having worked in non-profits organizations in the past (or supported growing organizations), you understand what any organization needs to thrive and evolve. This experience allows you to understand how all of the pieces of the organization fit together and which systems will support the ongoing operations of the team. As a data consumer, you have developed, implemented and tested success metrics for advocacy or social impact organizations and understand how to facilitate cross functional communication to eliminate the “silo-effect”. You have time-tested strategies in your toolkit to support effective decision making processes and have developed proven internal management systems the drive consistent results.

Cultural Ambassador & Facilitator. You understand how to develop a strong organizational culture through great leadership and have experience in developing and collaborating with team members across the organization to do the same. You demonstrate this belief in the ways you interact with staff and stakeholders, harness and focus team energy, and in how you communicate with integrity in your day-to-day work. Your passion and personal commitment towards providing equity and access to women in the AAPI community is contagious and drives company culture.

Effective Communicator. As a seasoned spokesperson, you are able to articulate the issues of AAPI and/or immigrant women and girls in the areas of health, social justice and human rights. You have a facilitative and collaborative approach to leadership with a proven track record of working in dynamic national teams. You can navigate through the gray towards consensus. You understand that the message and messenger matters and align communications based on your audience.

Developer of People & Organizations. As a leader and expert in talent acquisition and development, you have devised and implemented cutting edge strategies for staff retention and recognition, ensuring that experienced, highly qualified staff are not only recruited to NAPAWF but stay for years to come. With experience building strong organizations and teams, you have developed organizational effectiveness through talent management and development, change management, performance management and succession planning. You’re experience in developing a long-range strategic plan and implementing it while building organizational buy-in. You “live in the gray” and understand how to manage through change with compassion and dignity for all involved.
 

ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT & OUTCOMES FOR SUCCESS

As an advocacy organization designed for significant social impact and scale serving as the voice of AAPI women’s issues, NAPAWF seeks a Deputy Director that has the experience and ability to build the operational foundation necessary to support a rapidly growing organization.

The Deputy Director of Operations will do this by:

  • Providing leadership, guidance, and support to direct reports (e.g. Development Associate), team members, and others that drives success and reinforces our core values.
  • Designing and leading large-scale initiatives aligned to the organizational strategic plan.
  • Supporting on the prospect identification/ cultivation towards new funding models and opportunities
  • Coordinating cross-functional events and meetings (e.g. for fundraising, team retreats, etc.)
  • Cultivating ongoing professional learning opportunities and team goals across the organization, in concert with Program and HR & Operations
 

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary for this position is set on a non-profit scale and is commensurate with experience. A highly competitive benefits package includes a 401k plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance. Qualified dependents may also be covered. NAPAWF also offers full-time employees 15 days of vacation in the first year, sick leave, flexible spending program options and personal/family leave.
 

LOCATION

This role will be based in either Chicago or Atlanta with preference for candidates residing in the greater Chicago region.
