Peer Health Exchange (PHE) is a national nonprofit organization that builds healthier communities with young people. Together, we create education opportunities for peers to share the tools and resources young people need to make healthy decisions. About the Position:

As Vice President, Marketing & Communication, you will lead on building PHE’s brand and products into much broader visibility. You will lead PHE’s overall branding and messaging across all of its external communications; grow engagement and reach on social media; envision and broker high-visibility partnerships for our content; and work with key internal partners to increase our reach and revenue. You’ll report to the Chief Operating Officer.



Here is what you’ll do as part of our team:

70% Marketing & Branding

  • Research, create, implement, evaluate, and be accountable for short and long-range marketing strategy and plans across paid, earned, and social media as well as brand partnerships, to achieve sustainable audience growth that results in more users of PHE’s digital products, more demand for PHE’s school-based work, and more revenue through philanthropy and earned revenue
  • Co-lead visioning and planning on leveraging new technology and media platforms to achieve organizational goals to reach more young people, specifically in partnership with Digital Products and Direct-to-Youth teams
  • Lead the development of the PHE brand(s), coach and support the PHE team on leveraging the brand to benefit our vision and mission, and engage young people, partners, and supporters across PHE’s footprint in the narrative
  • Review and advise on external strategic communications, including media/public relations, digital and print communications, and social media
  • Lead crisis communications planning and external response in collaboration with other members of PHE’s senior leadership; advise and collaborate on internal response
  • Be a primary external spokesperson for the organization and cultivate that capacity in others
  • Serve as a member of PHE’s executive team and as chief communications advisor to the CEO & Co-founder, Board of Directors, and other PHE executive leadership; lead PHE’s Communications Committee

30% Staff Management and Team Culture

  • Ensure that all direct reports are aligned and support PHE’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and priorities
  • Manage and develop direct reports to a sustained high level of performance through coaching, mentorship, etc. to ensure that they are constantly acquiring new skills, as well as enhancing and growing their current skills
  • Foster collaborative relationships between your team and the rest of PHE and monitor Team health and culture
  • Create and implement effective and relevant staff onboarding and training in conjunction with other departments
  • Exemplify to PHE’s core values and advance PHE’s vision for health equity in all aspects of our work, internally and externally
  • Lead annual and multi-year team planning and budgeting

 

What you’ll bring to the table:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Demonstrate a strong passion for PHE’s mission to build healthier communities with young people; strong alignment with PHE’s core values of Health Equity, Commitment, Communication, Agency, and Impact
  • Centers youth inclusion, community partnership, and equity work visibly, broadly, in action in part through deep listening and hearing with a lens of inclusion
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Marketing or Communications OR 10+ years experience in a marketing, communications, or branding role
  • Experience driving growth (revenue, users, or both) across digital platforms and mapping the audience journey and alignment with appropriate initiatives; nonprofit experience preferred
  • 6+ years demonstrated management and leadership experience supervising, managing, and training others
  • Demonstrated leadership strengths in situational management, collaboration, and power-sharing
  • A demonstrated ability to lead and empower/coach (?) people and get results individually and collaboratively through coaching/training and professional development
  • Proven ability to deliver and thrive in a fast-paced, learning organization
  • Exceptional public speaking, writing, editing, and technical skills
  • Ability to travel as needed after COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted


Preferred qualifications:

  • Creative skills and savvy around social media, video creation, and graphic design
