Roseville Community Charter School is seeking an experienced 2018-2019 K-4 Special Education Teacher

Founded in 2011, Roseville Community Charter School was created to provide a high quality, college preparatory education to students in the Roseville neighborhood of Newark, NJ.  Our mission is to prepare every student for academic excellence while providing a warm, nurturing environment in which all children are supported and thrive. Position: K-4 Special Education Teacher

About the Opportunity

In this role, the Special Education Teacher will work report directly to the Principal and will be responsible for supporting the differentiated needs of their students in and outside of the classroom. For this role, the Special Education Teacher will be responsible for but not limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Exemplify, advocate and operationalize the mission, vision and core values of the school
  • Teach and reinforce all school-wide expectations, systems, and routines
  • Create and/or implement rigorous lesson plans, with clear and measurable objectives, which include strategies tailored to meet the needs of special education students and support high academic achievement
  • Provide in-class and/or out of class instruction per students’ IEPs
  • Modify and create lesson plans that accommodate various learning styles and needs
  • Employ strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory
  • Develop flexible groups for students within individual classes in collaboration with classroom teachers
  • Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop and implement IEPs designed to promote students‘ academic, physical, and social development; Communicate with students and families regularly to discuss student progress.
  • Complete clerical responsibilities in a timely manner

Qualifications

  • New Jersey Students with Disabilities teacher certification
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Firm belief in the ability of all students to achieve at high levels, and high expectations for low-income children to become college ready and attend selective universities
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching special education students
  • Experience teaching in an urban environment, with demonstrated quantifiable and objective student performance gains that surpass state or local averages
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team, especially with parents and community members
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Detail oriented, with excellent organization skills
  • Self-reflective and analytical problem solver
  • Openness to feedback, willingness to take personal responsibility, and a desire to learn from others
  • Unwavering in pursuit of excellence even in the face of difficult opposition and challenges
