Start: ASAP until the end of the school year

Responsibilities

• Support the student with the transition between activities and complete schoolwork

• Support the student to ensure safety during transitions and challenging behavioral situations

• Conduct 1:1 sessions with the student in reading, writing, and math under the supervision of the classroom teachers

• Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) under the direction of the School Psychologist and/or Social Workers and Director of Learning Supports, by completing chart daily

• Document child’s activities on a daily basis

• Communicate professionally with teachers, staff, and families

Required Skills

• Experience working with children, especially children with special needs who require health support and/or behavioral support and intervention

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a team of teachers and support staff

• Willingness to accept and implement feedback

• Ability to implement a behavior plan and support a child through challenging behaviors

• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student’s disability, etc.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma (or its recognized equivalent, e.g., GED) is required.

• All candidates must possess a Paraprofessional, Teacher or Teacher Assistant Certification NY Level I, II, or III. 

• A First Aid/CPR /CED Certification is preferred.

• Depends on the assigned location
