The Opportunity

Tulsa Legacy Charter School is a premier Pre-K through 8th-grade charter school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We continue to grow and harness best practices to serve and empower our scholars each year. We are looking for an Executive Director who will be responsible for the successful leadership and management of  the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. TLCS is seeking an Executive Director who will make the commitment to lead with determination, integrity and purpose and embody our CREATE values, i.e. Commitment, Rigor, Excellence, Achievement, Teamwork and Empathy.

  • Passionate Educator: You possess a passion and ability to build and sustain the TLCS PK-8 model in a high need, urban environment. You’ve had successful teaching and administration experience, with a pattern of increasing responsibility in education and administration. Your past experiences and actions reflect a commitment to the TLCS mission, vision, core values.

  • Great Communicator: You are reflective, self-aware and adaptable to the communication and work styles of others. A critical thinker and problem solver, you take initiative while being able to make difficult decisions.

  • Collaborator and Relationship Builder: You believe in the power of collaboration and would be able to build a collaborative culture with the TLCS network, community, staff, families and students. You demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Operational Excellence: You demonstrate strong financial intelligence and long term vision for fiscal stewardship; allocate resources according to school and board goals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Leadership Development (35%)

    • Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the school

    • Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Director on all aspects of the school’s activities

    • Foster effective teamwork between the Board and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and staff

    • Represent the school at community activities to enhance the school's community profile

 
  • Operations (20%)

    • Develop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the school

    • Ensure that the operation of the school meets the expectations of its stakeholders, Board and Funders

    • Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the school

    • Provide the collaborative leadership necessary to implement the school’s mission

    • Support school culture initiatives to further develop the school culture

    • Plan and lead staff learning experiences through professional development and grade level meetings focusing on school-to-home communication, student engagement in and out of the classroom, and mentoring programs available to students, community engagement, and summer engagement/ staying connected

 
  • HR Management  (15%)

    • Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery

    • Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices 

    • Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations

    • Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further the school's mission

    • Ensure that all staff receives an orientation to the school and that appropriate training is provided

    • Implement a performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on-going basis and conducting an annual performance review

    • Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance

 
  • Instructional Management and Planning (10%)

    • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization's curricula, programs and services

    • Ensure that the curricula, programs and services offered by the school contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the priorities of the Board

    • Monitor the delivery of instruction, programs and services of the school to maintain or improve quality

 
  • Fund Development/Management (10%)

    • Work with staff and the Board (Finance Committee) to prepare a comprehensive budget

    • Work with the Board to secure adequate funding for the operation of the school

    • Research funding sources, oversee the development of fundraising plans and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the schools

    • Participate in fundraising activities as appropriate

    • Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board

    • Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed

    • Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization

    • Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditure of the organization

 
  • Community Relations (10%)

    • Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the school and to identify changes in the community served by the organization

    • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization

    • Work effectively with local media to create a strong, positive local presence; participate in select events and speaking engagements as a spokesperson for TLCS’ mission and impact

    • Oversee brand development, social media presence, and marketing of schools

 

Qualifications

  • Must have Master's Degree in Education, Education Administration, Public Administration, or Business Administration

  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in nonprofit, charter school, or public school administration/leadership

  • Proven success in working with parents, teachers, and students to achieve educational equity in low-income, minority communities

  • Experience successfully operating and managing a multi-million dollar operation 

  • A track record of developing and securing resources through philanthropy and other funding opportunities and developing strategic partnerships

Compensation & Benefits

  • $100,000 - $130,000 per year

  • Tulsa, Oklahoma. We have two campuses, one is located at 6001 North Peoria Avenue, the other is located at 105 East 63rd Street
